WHAT ARE JOWLS?

Jowls can be experienced by many men and women as they get older. Their appearance is determined by sagging skin around the jawline, and usually on each side of the face. 

This concern may develop later into adulthood, often when a person is in their 40’s or 50’s and can become more prominent over time.

WHAT CAUSES JOWLS?

The ageing structure of the internal and external skin and tissues are often the main reason for the development of jowls. Collagen and elastin starts to decline as a person progresses through their adult years, causing the face to experience a decline in tissue density and its internal support. This results in weaker skin that is also lacking in volume; the perfect recipe for loose skin. 

Gravity will also play its part as it pulls down on the delicate complexion. This can be accompanied by the underlying deposits of fatty tissue that also descend to the lower parts of the face, contributing to the sagging effects of the skin.
