Tear trough treatment addresses the area situated between the lower eyelid and the cheek. Due to ageing, this region can become hollow-looking which can also lead to the development of eyebags and dark circles.
This procedure uses dermal fillers to help add volume to the skin and support the underlying structure. This technique enables any depressions to be filled in order to rejuvenate the appearance of the upper face.
The Facebible approaches each case individually, understanding that every patient requires their own personalised treatment plan in order to reach their goal. This plan will be discussed at a pre-treatment consultation, and is made following an in-depth assessment of the patient’s concerns.
A small needle is used to apply the dermal fillers in carefully placed locations. These products will often contain a high concentration of hyaluronic acid. This ensures that the filler works to increase tissue density, as well as boosting hydration for improved condition of the skin.
The final outcome is usually visible once the initial (minor) side effects have subsided. Ensuring the fillers will settle into place more effectively will require a period of 6 hours, where the tear trough area is not touched.
The application of dermal fillers often provides an instant result that improves greatly within 24 hours. After this time the area beneath the eye can appear smoother, fuller and fresher. By reducing noticeable hollows, eyebags and dark circles a younger appearance is produced.
Both men and women can be affected by depressions in the tear trough area – the area between the lower lids and the cheek. This concern is due to a decrease in tissue density, weakening skin and descending fat pads. Dermal fillers will replace the substances that give the skin its volume and bounce (collagen and elastin), to revive the look of the eyes.
Pregnancy, breastfeeding and skin infections may mean this treatment is not suggested for you.
Dermal fillers have FDA approval, and are a safe and effective way to restore volume in the skin. Patient safety is top priority at The Facebible, and this treatment will only be performed by a practitioner who is appropriately trained to do so. Teoxane Redensity 2 is the product we use in our tear trough treatment – the ONLY aesthetic injectable that is licensed in the UK for treating the tear trough area.
The skin around the eye area is naturally thinner than on other parts of the face, which can mean this part of the face may be more sensitive. To help alleviate any potential tenderness, a topical numbing cream will be offered, and a fine needle will be used. Dermal fillers will often provide a more unique formula when addressing the eyes, which may contain a mild anaesthetic and is more suitable for use in this region.
It is likely that with an area that is as delicate as the eyes, you will experience some minor side effects, including: swelling, redness and bruising. Within 24 – 48 hours these effects will often have subsided – any remaining bruising can be covered using make-up.
Other complications are always a risk when undergoing an aesthetic treatment, and your practitioner will ensure these are fully explained prior to the procedure.
Concerns with the tear troughs are usually improved within 1 treatment session. To maintain your rejuvenated appearance for the longer term, the treatment will need to be repeated on a regular basis. Our patients often return every 6 – 12 months.
