WHAT IS MASSETER TREATMENT?
Masseter treatment addresses the appearance of a wide jaw, when overgrown muscles are the cause. The jaw muscles are called the masseter muscles and they are responsible for the opening and closing of the mouth. These can become enlarged with repeated use, usually due to involuntary movements such as teeth grinding or jaw clenching, or through overly frequent and regular chewing (e.g – for those who often chew gum).
Anti-wrinkle injections can be used in this instance to relax the contractions of the masseters and prevent overuse of these muscles.
THE TREATMENT PROCESS
Anti-wrinkle injections may commonly be referred to as botulinum toxin injections, or BOTOX. When addressing facial creases the toxin works to soften the movements and prevent a wrinkle from forming. With overgrown masseters the product is administered directly into the muscle on each side of the face, if this is required.

AFTERCARE AND RESULTS
Masseter treatment can work to stop involuntary movements of the jaw, which can also alleviate any other concerns that may be associated with jaw clenching and teeth grinding (such as headaches and jaw pain). Over time the masseters will decrease in volume and shrink back to their regular size; restoring a more slim-line contouring of the jaw. By maintaining regular treatment sessions, every 3 or 4 months, it will help to ensure the results are long-lasting.
Being careful not to touch or rub the area for the first 6 hours can contribute to a successful result.
