WHAT IS NIR SKIN TIGHTENING?
NIR (near infrared) skin tightening is one of the most effective non-surgical, anti-ageing procedures on the aesthetics market. It can be used on many areas of the face, including: cheeks, jawline, neck and decolletage (chest area). Often producing results similar to those achieved through a surgical face / neck lift, NIR skin tightening can refresh the overall appearance by restoring the skin’s strength and firmness.
At The Facebible, we see many patients who are unhappy with the tired look that wrinkles and sagging skin have produced. Prior to treatment, our experienced clinicians carry out a thorough consultation to determine suitability. This establishes a proposed treatment plan, outlining the areas we intend to treat, and how many sessions are required.
THE TREATMENT PROCESS
A safe level of infrared light is delivered to the skin by passing a handheld device over the surface. This piece of innovative technology is powered by LED (Light Emitting Diodes) that leaves the surrounding skin and tissues unharmed. Light energy turns to heat energy when it’s absorbed by the underlying tissues, stimulating the fibres which trigger the tightening effect, as well as cellular renewal and the production of new collagen. Tighter skin is also firmer, ensuring a smoother texture is achieved that appears lifted.
The treatment can also be used to firm and tighten sagging skin on other areas of the body including: upper arms, stomach, thighs and hands, which can also work to reduce the appearance of cellulite.

AFTERCARE AND RESULTS
As NIR skin tightening is gentle on the skin, there is little aftercare to consider. In some cases the skin can be slightly more sensitive than usual, so it’s even more important to ensure the skin is protected when going outside. Applying SPF everyday is something we always recommend at The Facebible, but in this instance, the factor may need to be higher (50+).
NIR skin tightening gets to work straight away and many of our patients report a noticeable difference after the first procedure. As the treatment progresses, lines, wrinkles and sagging skin will start to reduce. The complexion will appear to be smoother, and lifted skin will help to recontour the facial characteristics.

This treatment can be suitable for many people who are noticing the signs of ageing. It can be effective on almost all skin types, from those who are very fair to those who have a darker tone.
As NIR skin tightening uses low levels of infrared light that fall into the spectrum of 700 nm to 2500 nm, it means it is a safe and effective treatment. Many patients report a great result with this treatment, and like the idea of achieving surgical results through a non-invasive procedure.
NIR skin tightening is not usually found to be painful. Patients describe feeling a warming sensation of the skin, but this does not get too hot and can feel quite soothing.
The most likely side effect from NIR skin tightening is redness of the skin. This usually settles within a few hours, and shouldn’t cause any disruption to your day.
A typical treatment course consists of up to 10 sessions. These will be carried out approximately 2 weeks apart.
